The division of Endocrinology is a subspecialty unit which manages patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders at the Universiti of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), the premier teaching hospital in Malaysia. We are a tertiary care referral centre for patients with endocrine conditions who require specialized management. Our team strives to deliver individualised, person-centred, evidence-based, holistic care whilst upholding the values of the institution.

In addition to providing inpatient care, we run 5 flagship outpatient specialist clinics:

1. Endocrine Clinic - which provides cares to patients with neuroendocrine (pituitary) disorders, thyroid & adrenal disease.

2. Type 1 Diabetes Clinic, with an insulin pump service.

3. Weight-management Specialist Clinic.

4. Advanced Insulin Education Program Clinic, for people living with Type 2 Diabetes requiring intensive insulin therapy.

5. Combined Antenatal Clinic, focused on improving materno-fetal outcomes in mothers with diabetes in pregnancy.

In addition to striving for excellence in clinical care, our team members are involved in cutting-edge research resulting in publications in high impact journals such as Lancet, JAMA Network Open, Nature Reviews, Diabetes Care, Pituitary, Diabetes Medicine, Clinical Endocrinology, Transplantation, British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Journal of  Gastroenterology & Hepatology. We also have decades long experince in executing industry-initiated research under the auspices of the Clinical Investigation Centre of UMMC. Our clinician scientists are involved in research collaborations both regionally and globally, including with Tsinghua, Harvard, Oxford, NUS and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The team members have research interests and skills in diverse areas including pituitary neuro-endocrinology, MASLD (Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease), diabetes technology, precision medicine, genetic epidemiology, metabolic bone disease, islet-cell transplantation and clamp studies/ IVGTT. Last but not least, the Division of Endocrinology is also actively involved in the post graduste training of endocrine fellows, both from Malaysia and abroad, as well as physician training/ undergraduate teaching.
